History Made! The Columbus East Olympians just wrestled their way into the record books, claiming the first-ever IHSAA Girls State Wrestling Championship! With powerhouse performances from Monica McMahon (1st at 190 lbs) and Saige Plummer (2nd at 125 lbs), this team proved that grit, determination, and teamwork lead to greatness.

Honoring a Columbus East Legend! On Tuesday, February 25th, Ted Rutan became the first-ever recipient of the Columbus East Distinguished Alumni Award, recognizing his outstanding athletic career and lifelong impact on sports. A three-sport star at Columbus East, Rutan led the Olympians to deep postseason runs in baseball, basketball, and tennis, earning multiple All-State and Academic All-State honors. He continued his success at DePauw University, setting records in both baseball and basketball—achievements that later earned him a place in the DePauw Athletics Hall of Fame. As DePauw coach Rusty Loyd put it, Rutan was “a fierce competitor, a true ambassador of the game, and a mentor to countless athletes.” After his playing days, he remained a dedicated coach and broadcaster, covering everything from local high school sports to international competitions. To honor his lasting legacy, this award will now be known as the TED RUTAN ALUMNI AWARD. Join us in celebrating a true Olympian great! #OlympianPride #TedRutan #ColumbusEast #EastPride

This evening, Coach Cooper was honored at the school board meeting for his induction into the Hall of Fame. During the recognition, three young men—Cayden Rooks, Talon Jessup, and Caleb Cooper all spoke on the meaningful influence Coach Cooper has had on their lives.
These young men are true reflections of Coach Cooper and the excellence of the East wrestling program. Congratulations, Coach Cooper!
